鈥淎bout 4 years ago, the company first hit a growth spurt. The founders realised that this was going to be a large organisation if the growth continued and they didn鈥檛 want to assign a large amount of real estate to it,鈥� he explains.

A savvy move, the company has continued to grow since then and now provides services to over 500,000 companies around the world.

Why Galway?

The Irish team is largely based around the Galway area with 80% of staff working remotely from the county. And if you鈥檙e thinking of moving to 黑料网, Galway is a fantastic option. Located on 黑料网鈥檚 west coast, the city has a bohemian vibe and is known for excellent restaurants and great nightlife. Music is everywhere – you鈥檒l find buskers on every street corner and traditional music in many of the pubs. Venture out of the city and you鈥檒l be hit with stunning scenery along the coast where the wild Atlantic Ocean meets charming fishing villages, sandy beaches and coves.

Remote Work Doesn鈥檛 Mean Isolation

Working remotely takes a certain amount of discipline and whether Shopify are recruiting for a customer service role or a more techie position, skills like problem-solving and the ability to think independently are key.

While you鈥檒l get all the benefits of working from home, but with a solid structure. Staff work in set shifts, typically between 8 am – 4 pm or 10 am – 6 pm. And although you鈥檒l be working remotely- 聽you won鈥檛 be lonely. 鈥淲e schedule by team, so when you are working your whole support network are online too,鈥� John explains.

And you鈥檒l also get plenty of opportunities to meet your team members face-to-face. 鈥淭here are meetups happening organically and then once a month we have a team meetup where folks are invited to work a day in a co-working space,鈥� he says. Added to that, the team also have a monthly meeting where they gather together for a mix of work and play.

Have Broadband Will Travel

Another benefit of working remotely is once you have a good internet signal, you can work while you travel.

鈥淥ne of our managers recently had an opportunity to go and visit a friend who worked overseas in Uganda,鈥� John says. 鈥淪he took her laptop and went and did her job for two weeks from Uganda.鈥�

Problem Solving

So, what kind of problems can you work on with Shopify? 鈥淏ecause we鈥檙e dealing with a global merchant base and the payment systems are different in every country in the world, payments are a really key aspect of our organisation and an area that provides a tonne of challenges,鈥� John notes. 鈥淎nother area is shipping because not every country has the same shipping companies like FedEx or DPD. They are key areas of specialisation and they can lead to complex questions.鈥�
